In Malaysia, we focus on designing community based protection solutions for refugees and asylum seekers in partnership with local community and refugee led organisations.
Our team is based in Kuala Lumpur and specialise in child protection solutions and developing alternatives to detention through case management and community capacity building to protect refugee children and unaccompanied minors from harm.

Building capacity for the protection of children within the Rohingya and Myanmar-Muslim refugee community in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Rebirth
As part of a livelihood project ran by HOST in Malaysia, we set up a social enterprise “REBIRTH” to provide training and business development support to market and sell refugee made items using Malaysian “batik” material, which would support refugees, including women and single mothers to earn an income and support their livelihoods while navigating life in Malaysia. Through the program, HOST has been able to train over 15 artisans with basic sewing skills to make various batik products.

The REBIRTH Product Training Series is an extensive training program which takes place in our office, guarantees that our committed artisans will have the chance to become experts in the production of every Rebirth product. Our aim is to provide them with the knowledge, skills, and expertise required to craft each product with precision and artistry, thereby enhancing their capabilities and fostering self-reliance. We reaffirm our commitment to empower our artisans and uphold the Rebirth by Refugees tradition through this training series. HOST continues to help REBIRTH with coordination and promote the refugee made products; whilst also supporting with the marketing, and operation of physical booths and pop-up shops.
